Is that snow on the logs that Ben is cutting? Ummmm, yes, it is. The guys got a bit behind on finishing up the woodpile for the winter, because they were so busy with the pole barn. Thankfully, we only had an inch or so before these pictures were taken.

Steve (Dad) takes some of the logs and runs them through the splitter, to be used for the fireplace in the living room. Most of the logs are left whole, and used in our huge outdoor wood stove, which you can see in the picture behind Steve. The outdoor stove heats water running underground and into the house. Those underground pipes give us in-floor heat, as well as a constant supply of hot water.

A.P. and D.J. help Elijah load the unsplit logs into the bucket on the tractor. Elijah then uses the bucket loader to move the logs closer to the area where they are stacked. We used to use wheelbarrows, but this is faster and easier on the back. Of course, those backs still get plenty of exercise stacking the wood!

The girls are using a small trailer and the four-wheeler to move the smaller split logs to the fireplace stack. I took ELEVEN pictures of Katie and Betsy, and every one of them was blurry. Those girls were moving, and weren't interested in posing!

Cait is 18 months old now, and we are assuming this is as big as she will get. She is much smaller than our old English Shepherd, Kes. -- she's more the size of a Border Collie, and looks a lot like one. Everyone has worked with her so much in the past year, and she has settled down to be a good farm dog and companion for the younger boys. She's still learning, though!

And the title of this post told the name of a special winter guest in our home. Bob the Frog was found a couple of weeks ago in a flowerpot in the dining room. Some of the kids had heard a funny noise in the early morning several times, and Betsy was sure there was a frog somewhere. Sure enough, she found him hiding under a leaf. I promised he could stay there as long as he stayed THERE and didn't hop around the house. He must know he's on probation, because he hasn't moved. Or no one has told me if he has, anyway. :)

So Bob is taking up winter quarters at your house. How funny. Wonder what he'll do for flies since they aren't around this time of year.
Looks like winter is well underway in your area. We still aren't wearing coats down here. I can't believe how mild it is this year.

This post brings back so many fun memories of Vermont! Looks like you all are staying busy, although Betsy told me they finished stacking the wood the other day. I'm sure that is nice to have done! Now it can get cold and you can have lots of snow, right? :)Sounds like Bob is behaving himself so far! Must be Katie threatened him!!
